01 — IdentityDisclosed

Human‑authored.
AI‑assisted. Plainly stated.

Zhaion is an AI‑hybrid R&B artist out of Detroit. Every word is written by a person. Every video is edited by a person. AI is a production tool, the way any modern studio uses one.

Created and directed by Grateful Edmund. Nothing about the method is hidden, because the method was never the point — the catalog is. No samples. No features. Masters and publishing owned outright, with full one‑stop clearance on every record.

The charts are real. The ownership is real. The work is the argument.

03 — The BuilderNamed

There’s a person in the room.

Zhaion is an artist. Somebody makes him. That somebody has a name, a résumé, and his face on this page.

Edmund Gray — Grateful Edmund — seated, black suit and turtleneck
Grateful Edmund · Detroit

Edmund Gray — known to most people as Grateful Edmund — writes, directs and produces every Zhaion record. Twenty years shipping other people’s products before he started shipping his own.

He sold the first iPhone at AT&T’s Washington DC flagship on launch day. He ran the region for Google’s first three Pixel launches. He flew commercial drones as one of the first pilots licensed to operate at scale, and rebuilt the analytics behind fifty federal properties for the Department of Defense.

Then he pointed all of it at a record.

AI is the studio. It is not the artist. Every lyric is written by a person. Every video is edited by a person. Every decision — the restraint, the sequencing, the quiet before the doors closed — was made by someone who has shipped things before and knows the difference between a demo and a product.

That’s the entire disclosure. There was never anything to hide, and the work holds up either way.

Brick Lang’s arrival, Zhaion on the feature. Not a music video — a black-and-white noir short film set in the 1930s, directed by Grateful Edmund. It introduced the character, built the visual universe the label works in, and set the rollout blueprint every NO CLEARANCE drop still follows.

“You don’t get access.”

Not an escalation — a restriction. The energy moves from confrontation to authority: colder, more controlled, more expensive. Gold gives way to Carhartt and Cartiers, Detroit industrial, cold night tones. If BANNED was the moment of entry, this is the moment the doors close. The artist is already inside.

Carhartt and Cartiers.

Working class and expensive at the same time. Shot flat, lit plain, nothing to hide behind — the era photographs the way it sounds.

The floor

Nothing here needed clearing.

Clearance is permission. In a studio it is the call you make before you can use something somebody else made. This record never had to make that call. Every sound on it was built for it, so there was nothing to ask for and nobody to ask.

Then there is the version printed on the clothes. ACCESS DENIED. Authorized personnel only. A badge that does not open the door.

Detroit knows that one. Build the thing, then get told you are not on the list.

Nine records about doing the work and standing outside the room anyway.

Both meanings are true at once. Nothing here needed clearing, and nobody here was ever cleared.

06 — The Record9 Tracks

Space over sound.

Deep pulsing bass, muted analog synths, tight restrained drums. 120–124 BPM. Every production decision built around what is removed rather than what is added. Adult. Controlled. Dangerous without being loud.

The list plays first — 09.14.26 We On The Lodge Wit It goes out to the mailing list on 09.14, three days before it opens to everyone on 09.17. Nine records, nine titles already in the world — printed on the shirts, named on the films. The sequence stays sealed until 09.18.

10 — FAQOn the record

Questions people ask.

Short answers, on the record, so nobody has to guess what this is.

Who is Zhaion?

Zhaion is an AI-hybrid R&B artist from Detroit, Michigan. The voice and the persona are AI-assisted; the writing, the direction and the production are human. Two albums: BANNED in 2025 and NO CLEARANCE, out September 18, 2026.

Is Zhaion's music written by AI?

No. Every lyric is written by a person and every video is edited by a person. AI is used the way any modern studio uses a production tool. Nothing about the method is hidden, because the method was never the point.

Who created Zhaion?

Edmund Gray, who works as Grateful Edmund, writes, directs and produces every Zhaion record under Kissmet Music Group in Detroit. Masters and publishing are owned outright through Gray Matter Music Publishing, BMI.

Has Zhaion actually charted?

Yes. The debut album BANNED reached #5 on iTunes R&B/Soul, and the single Billionaire reached #4 on Amazon Best Sellers in R&B and #1 on Amazon Movers & Shakers. The catalogue has 21.8K public Shazams and 500K+ views on myPlayer.

What makes Zhaion different from other AI artists?

Most AI acts are anonymous, label-backed, or written end to end by a machine. Zhaion is none of those. The lyrics are human-written, the method is disclosed on this page, the charting was earned independently with no label and no paid playlisting, and 100% of the masters and publishing are owned outright.

Is Zhaion a real person?

Zhaion is a character, not a hidden human performer. The person behind the work is named on this site: Edmund Gray, in Detroit. That disclosure is deliberate and permanent.

What is NO CLEARANCE?

NO CLEARANCE is Zhaion's second album: nine tracks, out September 18, 2026. Where BANNED was the moment of entry, NO CLEARANCE is the moment the doors close, in colder Detroit industrial and night tones.

Where can I listen to Zhaion?

Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and YouTube. NO CLEARANCE is also being pressed on 12-inch vinyl and CD, on sale here after 18 September 2026, and the merch run is sold direct from this site.
